Ric Schumacher is an ordained Unity minister and a nationally recognized speaker, trainer and writer. His writing has appeared in newspapers, magazines, and anthologies, including articles in Unity Magazine, Daily Word, and Journey Magazine. Ric is an adjunct professor at Youngstown State University in Youngstown Ohio where he has taught Religious Studies, American Identity and Human Geography.

An avocational archaeologist, Ric has been to the Holy Land where he participated in an archeological dig known as the Megiddo Expedition. The Megiddo Expedition operates under the auspices of Tel Aviv University, in Israel. Megiddo may be the single most important site in Biblical archaeology. It is the only site referenced in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament. It is mentioned in the book of Kings and is the setting of Armageddon referred to in Revelation Chapter 16.  Additionally, he has worked with the Maya Research Program at its sites in Belize exploring and mapping unexcavated Mayan sites in the subtropical rainforest jungle of Belize.  Ric has participated in archaeological digs and conducted vernacular architectural research on San Salvador Island in the Bahamas. 

He has held memberships in the Society of Biblical Literature, the American Academy of Religion, and is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. In addition, he has held memberships in The North American Patristics Society, The American Anthropological Association and an Associate membership of Committee for the Scientific Examination of Religion. Ric has served as a board member of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, The American Lung Association, The Northeast Ohio Task Force on AIDS and the Kidney Foundation and as a national board member for Warrior’s Journey Home, whose mission is to provide spiritual healing and soul repair for veterans, their families and the community. 

Ric has a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies with concentrations in archaeology, Islamic and Judaic studies. He holds master’s degrees in English, American Studies, and post master’s work in Working Class Studies.  Ric lives in Akron, Ohio with his wife Heather, two dogs and one cat. In his free time, Ric enjoys video production, photography, and watercolor painting.
